SCA Circular No. 1/2001 effective 05.06.01

In line with the SCA policy to upgrade the Canal in service of world navigation, and on the occasion of the near completion of the present stage of development, the following has been decided.

First:

1- As of June 5.2001, vessels with a beam of 169 feet & 6 inches can transit the Canal with a draft of 60 feet as experimental trips.

2-Vessel with a beam exceeding 169 & 6 inches can transit the Canal with the drafts shown in the attached table, " table II ammended"

Second:

1-As of July 26,2001 vessels with a beam of 164 feet can transit the Canal with the draft of 62 feet.

2-Vessels with a beam exceeding 164 feet can transit with drafts shown in the attached table,"table II ammended".

Third:

1-Item (c) of Article 52 and item (1) of Article 53 of the SC Rules of Nav(Feb 1995) shall be waived.

2-Ballast vessels with a beam up to 245 feet can transit with a draft of not more than 32 feet fwd and 36 feet aft. In favourable weather conditions and wind speed not more than 10 knots.

3-Ballast vessels with a beam exceeding 245 feet need a prior approval of the SCA to transit the Canal.

This circular takes effect as of 05/06/2001.
