The Panama Canal reports that there is a fire outbreak in one of the machinery tunnels of the upper chamber of the Miraflores locks. No injuries are reported; However, the transit of ships through this lock (west lane only) temporarily has been suspended as a safety measure.

Canal firefighters are working to address the situation. The rest of the locks (Miraflores East Lane, Pedro Miguel, Gatun, Cocoli, Agua Clara) continue to work normally.

The Canal Authority do not know when traffic would be back to normal. This will surely cause a negative impact in all schedules and prebooking arrangements are highly recommended if delays want to be avoided.
