SCA Circular No. 5/2017 - Vessels up to 40.000 Int. GRT arriving without Suez Canal Net Tonnage certificate or having certificates without calculation sheets

The Suez Canal Authorities have decided the following for vessels up to 40.000 International Gross Tonnage (GRT) arriving without Suez Canal Net Tonnage Certificate (SCNT) or with SCNT certificate, but without SCNT calculations sheets:

Article One:

A- Para (F) item (1), article 96 of S.C Rules of Navigation edition August 2015 will be amended to be :-

Vessels up to 40.000  International Gross Tonnage that do not forward Suez Canal Net Tonnage Certificate or forward a certificate without calculation sheets on their first Suez Canal transit, shall be measured by SC surveyors, upon owner's desire and collect transit dues on the basis of net tonnage not gross tonnage.

B- A shipowner wishing to measure and pay transit dues on the basis of net tonnage, shall present an application to SCA. The application to be submited with enough time prior to transit through their local transit agent stating their willingness to pay the additional dues of US 4000 for the measurement, subject that drawings are available for measuring.

C- Ships measured by SCA surveyors, shall be given a tonnage statement as per a specific form by SCA.

This circular takes effect as of 1st June 2017
