Grounding and collision in the Suez Canal, Southbound convoy

Container vessel MV AENEAS (built 2010, GRT 54182) no. 20 on Southbound convoy grounded at 157 km 1800 hrs 15th of July. 3 Suez Canal succeeded to re floated the vessel at 0030 hrs. The vessels behind, MV PANAMAX ALEXANDER (BUILT 2001, GRT 38928), MV SAKIZAYA KALON (Built 2017, GRT 44425) and MV OSIOS DAVID (built 2012, GRT 31538) failed to stop and crashed. This caused serious damages.

 

Latest update:

MV OSIOS DAVID exited SC and dropped anchor at W. Area for inspection and MV SAKIZAYA KALON returned to Great Biter Lake and dropped anchor.

MV PANAMAX ALEXANDER grounded at KM 147. 6 SCA tugs are towing the vessel back to Great Bitter Lake. (Vessel was re floated today 1830 hrs). This operation will take approx. 4 hours. Below listed vessels will resume canal transit behind MV PANAMAX ALEXANDER:

MV MAERSK SARNIA     

MV MSC RAVENNA

MV ZIM HAIFA          

MV STAHLA     

MV THERESA JIANGSU

 

After the 6 above mentioned vessels have completed the Northbound transit, the 16 vessels will resume the Southbound transit.

The ordinary Northbound convoy 17th of July is scheduled to transit tomorrow morning. (38 vessels.)
